Summertime is less than a week away. I am excited for this summer for a number of reasons.
For one, I am going to back to school and taking my first graduate level class this summer! Eeek! I am nervous, anxious, excited, apprehensive, scared, worried, unprepared yet prepared all at the same time. It’s been ten years since I took my last college class, and even though I have attended training workshops here and there for my current job, this is so much different. I am overwhelmed already and the classes haven’t even started. This is definitely a new chapter in my life that I am ecstatic about beginning.
This summer also means traveling to places I have never been - San Diego and Chicago. I know, I know. How have I not been to either one of those places and I am almost 35? Well, I’m not much of a traveler for various reasons, but with my job, I have the opportunity to attend one of the biggest technology conferences for educators in the United States in San Diego, then off to Chicago for a conference about the new standards that are being implemented in the near future. Boring to you? Yes. To me? No. I am excited to learn about how we can make improvements in our school and for our students.
Of course summer also means laying in the lawnchair in my backyard getting way too tan for most people, drinking way too much for most people, and being lazy way too much which is way too much lazy for some people. My summer vacations are getting shorter and shorter each summer. Kalyn used to leave June 1 and not come back until August 1. Two months of freedom without my child? Oh, there are lots of memories of years past to last a lifetime.
Lake! Lake! Lake! Lake!
